Here’s How to Prevent Porch Pirates

The explosion of online shopping has made life easier for people who don’t like to go out to shop! This has led to a dramatic increase in home deliveries, especially around the holidays such as Christmas. According to this reportthe U.S. Postal Service will deliver more than 28 million packages per day between December 16 - 21, nearly 40% more than the remainder of the year. Commercial carriers such as FedEx and UPS also make record breaking deliveries during this time.

Unfortunately, this change in buying behavior has spawned a new type of criminal - the porch pirate. A staggering 11 million homeowners have had a package stolen in the last year, according to the research firm Edelman Intelligence.

In the same report, it was also revealed that 74 percent of packages are stolen from homes during the day when homeowners are at work and that the average value of stolen packages is between $50 to $100.

In response to this challenge, more secure ways to store home-delivered products are being developed. One of these solutions is the elegant Ore Mailboxes, and they are available from Acme Brick Tile & Stone.

Classic Design with Powerful Security

A secure place to store packages has never looked this great! The Ore Mailboxes feature faceplate designs that are made of aluminum and cast in hand carved wood artistry for an authentic look and feel. According to Andrea Milner of Acme Brick, Tile & Stone “The body consists of high-quality galvanized metal for long lasting, consistent, aggravation-free performance. Furniture grade pulls, stainless steel hinges and parts enhance their performance. In fact, the manufacturer asked for and received input from brick and stone companies such as Acme Brick for maximum performance and ease of installation.”

These mailboxes are available in two options: front access only, or front and rear access for congested and busy street scenarios. The mailbox (2-door) version is available with front access and the mail and parcel (3 and 5 door) version are available in front access or front and rear access. They are powder coated for maximum durability and then hand finished for a unique, one-of-a-kind look.

All Ore Mailboxes are available in three finishes:

  • BRASS OIL (Brass)
  • RUBBED BRONZE (Oil-rubbed Bronze)
  • GLOSS BLACK

Plus, there are three styles from which to choose:

  • BOUNTIFUL LIFE
  • CLASSIC SHADOW
  • FLEUR DE LIS

A Mailbox For Every Home Design

There are three types of Ore Mailboxes offering homeowners flexibility when choosing a secure mail and parcel container.

#1 The OreMV™

This basic design consists of a locking vault feature allowing mail to be delivered through the mail door and secured until owner retrieval. These highly secure vaults come equipped with door seals to prevent environmental factors from damaging valuables. For outgoing mail, the homeowner can simply lay down the mail shelf. This function still gives the mailman the ability to deliver to the secure ‘vault’ area.

#2 The OreMPV™

The MailParcelVault (MPV) combination mailbox and parcel vault is specifically designed for home package deliveries. It provides a solid option, allowing for packages as large as 7 ½ inches wide by 20 inches long by 9 inches deep to be securely left at the home, reducing the risk of them being taken or damaged by weather. Packages are delivered through the middle compartment labeled ‘Parcel’ and then dropped through a trap door into the holding vault, out of sight and protected until they are retrieved using an access key. Mail is delivered as normal using the ‘U.S. Mail’ door at the top of the unit. Mail drops into the holding area as well.

#3 The OrePHV™

The ultimate secure parcel container is the Ore ParcelHomeVault (PHV). It allows packages to be delivered directly inside the home safely, securely and conveniently. This unit delivers the ultimate convenience for the homeowner. Parcels are deposited into a large vault and retrieved from inside the home or garage without the hassles of dealing with rain, darkness or other environmental factors all while keeping packages secure.

This model is designed to easily install in standard 16-inch center framing. It is 14.25 inches wide by 45 inches tall by 26 inches deep.
